Supportive Therapy An essential part of the treatment is the need for rehabilitation after aggressive surgery and radiation. The patient must be motivated and total rehabilitation requires a team approach, with speech therapists, social workers, physical therapists, prosthodontists, occupational therapists and nurses all playing important roles.
Cosmetic appearance, swallowing, speech, chewing and psychological functioning have to be considered. The family is extremely important in supporting the patient during and after therapy. Some functions and appearances may be different, but the person is the same.
